The Prince’s Rainforests Project
October 1st-November 15th 2009 Photo Journalism Exhibit at Mercy Corps Action Center
The Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) and Mercy Corps together with sponsors have teamed up to raise awareness about the importance of preserving rainforests in the fight against climate change, the devastating impacts of which are already being felt by the world.

The Sony World Photography Awards created the Prince’s Rainforest Project prize to raise awareness about the impact of tropical deforestation on climate change. The winner was Daniel Beltrà, a world-renowned photojournalist, who accepted the Sony fully-funded assignment to document rainforest on three continents: the Amazon, the Congo and Indonesia, for use in the PRP’s campaign.

Stunning interactive exhibitions will be held in London, Paris and Berlin – and now in New York at the Mercy Corps Action Center, where an exhibit will combine Daniel Beltrà’s photography and Mercy Corps’ highly regarded interactive educational exhibits, with computerized case studies and special video compilations featuring PRP supporters such as Sting, the Dalai Lama, CEOs, NGO leaders, and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

The photos for this exhibit have been printed on Hahnemuhle FineArt Sugar Cane paper, a sustainable tropical product. It was perfect for this project as it fit with the topic.  It is made from 75% sugar cane waste fiber (called bagasse) and 25% recycled surplus cotton paper. The bioprocess used to transform bagasse into pulp utilizes 50% less energy used to create wood paper pulp. No deforestation or other harm is done in order to plant and grow a crop for paper production. The bonus is the high quality of the paper. Hahnnemuhle is excited that our Sugar Cane 300gsm has been selected for this project. We at Hahnemuhle feel a special responsibility for our environment and founded the Green Rooster initiative. This encompasses our campaign for ecological paper production and the development of resource saving papers.
